Understanding the Proposed NDIS Changes
What Families Need to Know
There has been a lot of discussion recently about proposed changes to the NDIS and what they may mean for children, families and the services that support them. We know that many families are feeling worried, confused and uncertain about what happens next.
At All Together Therapy, we believe families deserve clear information, practical support and a voice in decisions that impact their children.
What is changing?
The Australian Government has proposed a range of changes aimed at reducing NDIS costs and reshaping how supports are funded and delivered.
While some changes are already underway, others are still being discussed and have not yet been finalised.
Some of the key areas families may hear about include:
Changes to how supports are approved and funded
Increased use of foundational supports and mainstream services
New rules about what can and cannot be funded through the NDIS
Changes to pricing and funding arrangements for therapy providers
Greater emphasis on assessments, evidence and planning processes
What could this mean for children and families?
At this stage, there are still many unanswered questions. However, families and providers across Australia have raised concerns about:
Access to therapy and early intervention
Many families worry that children may experience delays accessing support or may find it harder to receive therapy that meets their individual needs.
Choice and control
Families value being able to choose providers who understand their child, family and community. Concerns have been raised that some proposed changes could reduce flexibility and choice.
Continuity of support
Children often make progress when they have consistent relationships with trusted therapists and support teams. Any disruption to services can impact outcomes for children and families.
Regional and rural communities
For families living in regional areas, services are already limited. Changes that reduce the viability of local providers may further impact access to support.
What can families do now?
While we wait for further information, there are some practical steps families can take.
1. Stay informed
Seek information from trusted sources and be cautious about information shared on social media that may not be accurate or up to date.
2. Ask questions
If you are unsure how changes may impact your child, speak with your therapist, support coordinator, plan manager or trusted professionals.
3. Keep records
Maintain copies of reports, assessments and information that demonstrate your child's strengths, support needs and progress.
4. Share your experiences
Decision makers need to hear directly from children, families and communities. Lived experience is powerful and helps shape future policy. Pip our CEO is involved with the harm tracker a grassroots project aimed at identifying harm and on the ground concerns that are directly related to NDIS changes. 5. Reach out for support
You do not need to navigate these changes alone. If you are feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start, reach out to your support network or your therapy team.
