Understanding Funding Periods
NDIS plans are changing, and one of the changes families may start to see is funding periods.
This means that instead of being able to access the full amount of funding in a plan straight away, funding may be released in smaller portions across the life of the plan. The NDIA has said funding periods will usually be around 3 months, and that this changes when funding is available, not the total amount in the plan.
For families, this may impact how therapy is planned and accessed. It may mean thinking more carefully about:
therapy blocks
therapy breaks
spreading supports across the year
balancing therapy with other support needs
making sure funding is available when it is needed most
At All Together Therapy, we know every child and family is different. Some children may benefit from regular therapy, while others may do well with blocks of therapy, check-ins, home programs, parent sessions or planned breaks.
Our therapists can work with families to plan therapy around each child’s individual needs, goals and capacity, while also considering what is realistic for the family.
We also have Nathan, our Practice Manager and resident spreadsheet wiz, who can help families better understand their therapy budget, funding periods and how supports may be planned across the year.
If you are unsure how funding periods may impact your child’s therapy, please reach out. We are here to help you make sense of the changes and plan supports in a way that works for your child and family.
